Glasgow Stags B produced a spirited and resilient performance on Sunday night, battling back to earn a deserved point against previously unbeaten Nottingham Mavericks C in an entertaining 4-4 draw at Braehead Arena.
The visitors opened the scoring early, capitalizing at 6:12 to give Nottingham the initial momentum. The Stags, however, responded well and began to find their rhythm, drawing level late in the period.
With two minutes left in the period, Taiki Kawano finished clinically to make it 1-1, ensuring the hosts went into the first intermission on level terms and very much in the contest.
Nottingham edged back in front midway through the second period, with Crawford striking again at 34:16. The response from Glasgow was immediate and emphatic.
In an explosive period opener, Alex Rebelo showcased his offensive instincts, finishing a well-worked move a minute into the period with assists from Marty Byrne and Nicholas Cardoza.
Rebelo then doubled his tally at two minutes later, this time assisted by Kyle Burns, giving the Stags a 3–2 lead and swinging momentum firmly in Glasgow’s favour.
The final period delivered drama in abundance. Kawano struck for his second of the night just 25 seconds into the period, restoring the Stags’ lead and putting the home side within touching distance of a statement victory.
Nottingham, however, pressed hard late on, levelling the game in the third. Crawford completed his hat-trick on the power play before Marcus Cyrille netted the tying goal with ten minutes to go to set up a tense finish.
Despite heavy pressure - Nottingham outshot Glasgow 61-29 - the Stags held firm through the closing stages, with netminder Craig Orr producing a standout performance with a series of key saves to preserve the draw.
Key Performances
Alex Rebelo was named Glasgow Stags B MVP, registering two goals and driving the offence throughout the night.
In a two-goal performance of his own, Taiki Kawano consistently threatened the opposition on his Stags debut.
Craig Orr stood tall in net, stopping 57 of 61 shots in a composed display under sustained pressure.
The Stags will be back in action this weekend as the B team heads down to Nottingham for a much-anticipated rematch.
